Our family has visited Marrakech not once, but twice, with our three kids and we’ve learned a thing or two about what makes a successful family trip in this vibrant city. Here are some of our top picks for activities that your kids will love and make the most memorable family vacation ever.

1. Ride Camels in the Desert
One of the most exciting and iconic activities in Morocco is riding camels in the desert. Families can head to the Agafay Desert, just outside the city, for a safe and family-friendly camel ride. Many tours include traditional Berber outfits for photos, and dinner with a show afterwards.
What makes this trip great for families is how easy it is. We booked this excursion and they took care of everything, even picking us up from our hotel. Our family has done two camels rides, one in the Agafay Desert and one in the Sahara Desert. The Sahara is so beautiful and majestic but it can be incredibly difficult for families especially those with small children. The 9 hour drive from Marrakech alone can be exhausting. That is why for this trip we opted for the Agafay Desert camel ride and we have zero regrets! We had the most amazing time riding camels with the kids and found it to be the perfect excursion from Marrakech. You can watch our entire adventure on our instagram stories. 2. Get Henna Tattoos with the Kids
Henna art is an ancient Moroccan tradition, and getting a henna tattoo is a fun and safe way for kids to experience local culture. Visit a reputable henna artist in the Medina or at a cultural center, ensuring that they use natural, chemical-free henna. Our first time in Marrakech we got our henna by someone random in the square and it wasn’t our favorite. For the second time we went to The Henna Art Cafe and had an incredible experience. Their art work is incredible. My only feedback would be the henna didn’t last as long as last time so I would ask them about it next time.
3. Shop in the Marrakech Medina and Practice Negotiating
Exploring the Medina is an adventure in itself! The souks (markets) are filled with colorful textiles, handcrafted pottery, leather goods, and souvenirs. Kids will have fun practicing their bargaining skills as they interact with local vendors. A great way to make it interactive is to give each child a small amount of dirhams and let them negotiate for a souvenir.
If you have never been to Marrakech the Medina can feel intimidating. The souk owners can be very pushy, its noisy and busy, and there are donkeys, motorcycles, and people pushing past in the small and narrow alleyways. Plus the Medina can feel like a labyrinth at times and its really easy to get lost. If this is your first time I would highly suggest getting a guide until you get used to it.
Even though the Medina can feel hectic I wouldn’t let that stop you from going. It is one of the most culturally unique and beautiful places and your kids will learn so much from the experience. Just remember to keep your eyes forward and sternly say “no” when approached and most souk owners will leave you be! Negotiating is part of the culture so have fun with it! My 8 year old was able to find a purse she loved and negotiated the price down 50%. Not only does she love her new purse but she is proud of her bargaining skills ;)

4. Go on an ATV Adventure Together
For families with older kids, an ATV adventure in the rocky Agafay Desert or the palm groves is an exhilarating way to explore the Moroccan landscape.
