We spent a month in Thailand with our 3 young girls and we want to share all of the tips we learned on our trip to make the planning process simple for you. Overview of the 30-Day Thailand Itinerary
Our 30-day Thailand itinerary is designed to provide families with a comprehensive exploration with lots of variety to see this captivating country. This is based off our 30-day adventure in Thailand so rest assured this is tried and true tips from a family who has been there!
Starting off in Phuket, you can ease into adventure with relaxing beach days, cultural explorations in Phuket Old Town, and thrilling experiences like sunset cruises and snorkeling in Phang Nga Bay. Moving on to the picturesque Phi Phi Islands, days are filled with island hopping, beach picnics, and encounters with playful monkeys, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.
Krabi welcomes families with its stunning natural beauty, where days are spent exploring limestone cliffs, hidden caves, and pristine beaches. From visiting elephant sanctuaries to island-hopping boat tours, Krabi offers endless opportunities for both cultural immersion and outdoor adventures.
Chiang Mai, known for its rich cultural heritage, invites families to delve into Thai traditions through elephant experiences, cooking classes, and temple visits, while also providing opportunities for wildlife encounters and outdoor exploration in the surrounding mountains.
Finally, Bangkok wraps up the journey with its vibrant energy and eclectic mix of modernity and tradition. Enjoy the grandeur of the Grand Palace, indulge in street food delights at the bustling markets, and enjoy thrilling experiences at amusement parks and kid-friendly attractions. Week 1: Phuket

Day 1-3: Phuket
Day 1
Get settled in your family-friendly resort in Patong Beach. Take it easy after your journey, maybe a stroll along the beach and a delicious dinner of authentic Thai cuisine.
Day 2
Explore Phuket Old Town with its colorful Sino-Portuguese buildings and quirky shops. Don’t miss the local markets for some authentic Thai snacks and souvenirs. In the afternoon, head to Phuket Aquarium to marvel at the marine life. You can also take a temple tour or go up to visit Big Buddha and get the most amazing views of all of Phuket. Just make sure to wear appropriate clothing.
TIPS:
Thailand can be very hot and the old town can get very crowded. I would suggest going first thing in the morning for the least amount of crowds or in the evening when the temperatures cool down.
Day 3
It’s beach day! Spend the day building sandcastles, swimming, and enjoying water sports at Kata Beach or Karon Beach. Wrap up the day with a sunset cruise around Phang Nga Bay.

Week 2: Phi Phi Islands
Day 4-7: Phi Phi Islands

Day 4
Travel to Phi Phi Islands by ferry. Once you’re settled in your accommodation, head out to explore the island. Visit Monkey Beach for some playful encounters with the monkeys and snorkel in the crystal-clear waters.
Day 5
Take a boat tour around the Phi Phi Islands. Stop at Maya Bay, made famous by the movie “The Beach,” and snorkel at Bamboo Island. Enjoy a beachside barbecue lunch.

Day 6
Relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches of Phi Phi. You can rent kayaks or paddleboards for some family fun on the water. In the evening, check out the fire shows on the beach.
Day 7
Bid farewell to Phi Phi Islands and head to Krabi.



Week 3: Krabi

Day 8-11: Krabi
Day 8
Arrive in Krabi and settle into your accommodation. Spend the day exploring Ao Nang Beach and its surroundings. Consider visiting the Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary for a memorable experience (if you are heading to Chiang Mai wait to have your elephant experience there).
Day 9
Embark on a day trip to the stunning Railay Beach. Explore the caves and limestone cliffs or try rock climbing if the kids are up for it. Don’t forget to catch the sunset at Railay Beach.

Day 10
Take a leisurely boat tour to the nearby islands, such as Hong Islands or Phi Phi Islands (if you want more beach time). Snorkel, swim and enjoy the beauty of the Andaman Sea.
Day 11
Visit the Tiger Cave Temple for a cultural experience and panoramic views of Krabi. Spend your last evening in Krabi enjoying a seafood feast by the beach.

Week 4: Chiang Mai & Bangkok

Day 12-21: Chiang Mai
Day 12
Fly to Chiang Mai, the cultural heart of Thailand. Check into your hotel and explore the vibrant Night Bazaar for souvenirs and street food.
Day 13-16
Visit an elephant sanctuary for a day of elephant feeding, bathing, and learning about conservation efforts. Explore the Doi Suthep Temple and enjoy the panoramic views of Chiang Mai from the mountain. Book your elephant sanctuary visit here.
Day 17-20
Take a Thai cooking class as a family and learn to make some delicious Thai dishes. Explore the charming streets of the Old City by bicycle or tuk-tuk. Visit the Chiang Mai Zoo or the Chiang Mai Night Safari for some wildlife encounters. Book your cooking class here.
Day 21
Depart from Chiang Mai and fly to Bangkok.

Day 22-30: Bangkok
Day 22-25
Explore the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun to immerse yourselves in Thai history and culture. Don’t miss a boat ride along the Chao Phraya River and explore the floating markets.

Take a day trip to Ayutthaya to explore the ancient ruins and learn about Thailand’s rich heritage. Return to Bangkok in the evening for a farewell dinner.
Day 30
Departure day. Depending on your flight time, you might have some time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing before heading to the airport. Bangkok malls are like nothing else we’ve ever seen, definitely worth a visit.
