With the Fourth of July just around the corner, you’ve probably been brainstorming fun ways to keep the kids entertained and get them excited about the holiday. What better way to celebrate than with a craft project inspired by one of our most iconic symbols of freedom, the Statue of Liberty? If your kids are anything like mine, they love any excuse to break out the glue sticks and glitter.

Before we started on this craft, we wanted to learn some history about the Statue of Liberty, so we read Her Right Foot by Dave Eggers. My kids loved it; it was the perfect way to get them interested in this craft. After that, we were ready to get started. Grab your crafting supplies and let’s dive into this easy and fun Statue of Liberty craft that will have your little ones beaming with patriotic pride!

What You’ll Need for this 4th of July Craft for Kids:

How to Make This Statue of Liberty Craft:

  1. Paint both sides of the paper plate and the toilet paper roll and let them dry completely before the next step.
  2. Next, you’ll cut the paper plate into several different pieces. Watch the video below and pause to see the specific cuts. Every piece has a purpose.
  3. Glue on the spikes of the crown and decorate with the stars however you like.
  4. Glue the scalloped edge you cut from the paper plate onto the toilet paper roll to hold the tissue paper.
  5. Add the tissue paper, it should stay without glue but you can glue it if you want to.

And there you have it, moms – a fun and festive 4th of July craft for kids to stay busy and be excited for the Fourth of July!
