Drum roll please… we are about to do the gender reveal. BUT before you get all anxious and scroll to the bottom of this post read about our whole gender reveal experience.
Friday I packed up the kiddos and headed to my first “real” Ultrasound appointment. With everything that happened in my first trimester I never had the traditional ultrasound that comes with most pregnancies (See The Darkness That Comes With Two Blue Lines for the back story). My last one was in the E.R. when I was admitted for severe dehydration. It wasn’t like the typical ultrasound I was expecting with my family in the room, a sweet technician showing me all body parts of my itty bitty baby, and pictures to take home. This was very different, the tech didn’t speak, there was no screen, instead I stared at the blank ceiling in the freezing cold room just praying everything was ok.
“There is a baby in there”, that is all she said to me. Like I said, the room was so cold.
I was rushed out to run more tests. That was it. Scott wasn’t there, my girls weren’t there, I didn’t even get to see this little life growing inside of me. I was so thankful that my baby was healthy but felt a huge disconnect, not understanding why it had to be this way.
When it came time for our 20 week anatomy ultrasound Scott and I decided we were really going to cherish this opportunity to meet our third little baby. We opted for a 4D ultrasound and as the images of this angel came across the screen our hearts jumped for joy. Lucille and Edith stared in amazement as they saw the details of the baby’s features and as the baby’s hand started to move. The girls waved back, “look mommy, the baby is waving at me”. My heart fluttered with the joy that had been missing for so many months. How could we be so lucky?
Susan, our technician, moved from test to test reassuring us that this baby looked healthy as can be and had no flags to show concern. The anticipation grew. She asked us if we wanted to know the gender. We both hesitated not wanting to seem too eager but promptly shouted ‘YES”.
We left that appointment with so much happiness in our hearts. It’s amazing how your love can grow for that little life in just an instant. Seeing that little nose, and those little feet made this whole experience even more real. Another beautiful life.
So do you think Baby Blinks #3 is a boy or a girl?
Could you be right?
As the all knowing Beyonce once said”Who runs the world?”
Girls!
Yes Baby Blinks #3 is a GIRL! We couldn’t be happier to bring another sweet girl into our home.
We knew we had to celebrate in a big way so we let the girls have some fun with the gender reveal.
They loved being able to make a mess and especially a mess on mommy.
I have to give a big THANK YOU to Priscilla Wilson Photography. She is a true talent and is such a joy to work with. It takes a special photographer to work with kids, especially little ones, and this girl knows what she is doing. My girls loved her and by the end of the shoot they were hugging her and covering her in pink. Please show her some love on herFacebookandwebsite. I know Christmas photo time is coming so contact her now to book your spot. Priscilla is sweet enough to offer a great deal for all my readers. Mention this blog post and she will give you 20% off your next session. She really is wonderful.
Want to have our own color fight?
Here are instructions on how to make the same non-toxic color powder your gender reveal:
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup of water
1 ounce of food dye – I used wilton icing colors
bowl
gloves
fork
baking sheet
food processor/coffee grinder/blender
Step 1: Mix the cornstarch and water. Here is a tip that none of the other tutorials told me and it makes a big difference. Start off with the water and slowly add the cornstarch. If you do it the other way around the paste will be too difficult to mix. Trust me, I tried it. Once you get a thick paste add the food coloring. I used half the bottle to be able to get the color I wanted. I suggest using a fork to mix. It was the easiest for me.
Step 2: Once it is completely mixed I spread the mixture into a thin layer on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in a safe place and let it sit for two days. You want the mixture to completely dry out to give it the powder texture it needs. You will be able to tell it’s ready by the cracks throughout.
Step 3: After two days preheat your oven to 350 degrees and once heated turn the oven off. Place the baking sheet inside and let it sit for 30 minutes with the door open.
Step 4: Once you take it out of the oven and let it cool, break the mixture up with a fork and add it to the food processor. Pulse until it is a fine powder
Step 5: HAVE FUN!
This powder does make a huge mess so just consider this when planning your color fight.
Thank you once again for sharing in this special life moment with us. We are on cloud nine right now and having your love surround us makes it that much better!
