The Top Five Best Greek Islands to Visit with Kids
1. Naxos – The Best All-Rounder for Families

Naxos, part of the Cycladic Islands, is one of our absolute favorite islands for families. With wide, sandy beaches and shallow, calm waters, it’s perfect for kids, and a chill spot for parents too.
There’s a great mix of fun beach clubs, traditional villages, and ancient Greek sites like the Temple of Apollo (right near Naxos Town). The main town is lively but not overwhelming, and the local food scene is amazing, think fresh cheese, olive oil, and sweet citrus fruits. Add in the fact that Naxos has fewer crowds than its flashy neighbor Santorini, and you’ve got one of the best choices for a laid-back, kid-friendly vacation in the Cyclades.
Perfect for: beach days, water sports, exploring quaint villages, and local cuisine
Don’t miss: Naxos Town, marble quarries, local products, and a day trip to nearby Paros

2. Paros

Paros, also part of the Cycladic Islands, strikes that magical balance between traditional and trendy. It’s one of the most popular Greek islands in recent years, and for good reason: sandy beaches, sugar-cube villages like Naoussa and Lefkes, and some of the best views in the Aegean Sea. It’s charming, easy, and full of fun!
Paros is also a great starting point for day trips to smaller islands like Antiparos, which is just a short ferry ride away and full of caves, shallow waters, and fun adventures for nature lovers.
Perfect for: first-time Greece trips, beach hopping, and families who like a mix of calm and action
Don’t miss: Kolymbithres beach, the Archaeological Museum, and a ferry day trip to Antiparos

3. Santorini

We know, Santorini is known as one of the most romantic (and most visited) places in the world, so it might not be your first choice to travel to with kids. But it’s also one of the most beautiful islands and surprisingly great for kids, especially older ones who can handle a bit of walking and love a little adventure. It’s also part of the Cycladic Islands and it’s totally iconic, but family-friendly!
This island is packed with ancient history (hello, Minoan Palaces at Akrotiri!), stunning cliffside views, and good food everywhere you go (I think this is just a Greece thing overall). There’s even a cable car, boat trips to nearby hot springs, and plenty of luxury hotels that cater to families.
Perfect for: kids who love stories of ancient times and parents who want unforgettable views
Don’t miss: Oia’s famous sunset, black sand beaches, the archaeological museum, and local culture in Pyrgos

4. Corfu
The island of Corfu is the jewel of the Ionian Sea! It also offers great options for families looking for beautiful landscapes, calm waters, and a rich history rooted in Greek mythology and ancient times. With an international airport, it’s easy to get to from major European cities.
This larger island is part of the Ionian island group, known for olive groves, fertile soil, and a unique blend of Venetian, French, and British influences. Kids will love exploring the old town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site!), and you’ll love the good food, beach clubs, and nature.
Perfect for: culture-loving families, beach days with crystal-clear water, and historical sites
Don’t miss: Old Fortress, local cuisine in Corfu Town, olive trees in the countryside

5. Rhodes
If your family loves ancient history, Rhodes is one of the best islands for exploring ancient ruins, castles, and medieval towns. Located near the Turkish coast, it’s part of the Dodecanese islands, and it’s a unique experience with fewer crowds during the shoulder seasons.
Rhodes Town is full of popular attractions and UNESCO-recognized historical sites, and the west coast is great for water sports and day trips. The food scene is strong here too, with lots of local food and olive oil specialties.
Perfect for: history buffs, older kids, and a mix of beach + culture
Don’t miss: Palace of the Grand Master, Lindos Acropolis, and local markets
Tips for Visiting the Greek Islands with Kids
- Best Time to Go: The best time for family travel is late spring (May–June) or early fall (September). You’ll skip the peak season meltemi wind and enjoy perfect weather with fewer crowds.
- Getting Around: Many of the most popular islands are well connected by short ferry rides or flights from the capital of Greece, Athens.
- Where to Stay: Look for luxury hotels with kid-friendly amenities or family-run guesthouses in quaint villages, which usually offer a more authentic way of life.
- What to Eat: Greek food is super kid-friendly! Think grilled meats, fresh veggies, sweet fruits, and amazing desserts. Don’t skip the local products like olive oil, honey, and cheese.
So far, we’ve loved every Greek Island we’ve visited, so I don’t think you can really go wrong no matter which one you choose. There’s something magical in Greece for every age, and your family is sure to make amazing memories!
