As parents of three kids (ages 8, 10, and 11), one of our top concerns was how we’d maintain their education while living abroad. Sintra itself is an absolute dream. This little town, just outside of Lisbon, is famous for its fairytale-like castles, misty forests, and a rich sense of history. Imagine living surrounded by stunning palaces like the Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira, where every corner seems to have a story. You’re never far from an incredible view, whether it’s of the rolling hills or the Atlantic Ocean.
For families, Sintra offers the perfect mix of adventure and tranquility. On weekends, we explore the forests or head to the beach—both just a short drive away. The town is full of history and culture, but it’s also peaceful, giving our family the space to slow down and really enjoy life together. Plus, Lisbon is just a quick train ride away, so we have easy access to the buzz of the city whenever we want a bit more excitement.
Living in Sintra with Kids has allowed us to immerse ourselves in Portuguese culture while still having a close-knit community of Boundless Life families to share the experience with. It’s a place where we can give our kids the freedom to explore, learn, and grow, all while we enjoy the beauty and charm of this magical place.
