This post is sponsored by McDonald’s, but the opinions expressed here are my own. The new McCafé espresso menu is available at participating McDonald’s.
Nothing comes before my coffee.
I drag myself out of bed, never feeling like I got enough sleep even though I slept an uninterrupted 8 hours.
The kind of tired I feel has nothing to do with sleep. As moms we carry so much on our shoulders and that heavy burden can be draining.
When I decided to start homeschooling I knew the pressure would just get stronger. I knew there would be more sacrifices and fewer hours of sleep. Even more reason why my coffee is so important to me.
To me it has less to do with the added energy and more to do with finding those special moments for myself. Moments that make me happy and moments that are all about me, even amidst the chaos.
One of the most wonderful things about homeschool is that our classroom can be anywhere. Most mornings we head to the park with our books and binoculars, and I make sure I have my coffee in hand.
McDonald’s has launched a new espresso menu from McCafé full of café-quality espresso drinks. I ordered the Peppermint Mocha. It’s available until the end of December 2017 and I can’t get enough of the festive flavor.
Even with the girls running and playing I still feel these park days are a little bit about me. I find joy in those simple pleasures and for me that is grabbing a delicious cup of coffee.
I don’t have to deprive myself to be a good mother or a good teacher. I can still steal those joys for myself. Coffee makes me happy and I can see the sanity at the bottom of my coffee cup and for that I am so thankful.
Right now you can try any small McCafé beverage for only $2*, and when you buy 5 any size McCafé beverages, you get one any size McCafé beverage free with the McDonald’s App. (Valid 1/18/17 – 12/31/17. So when I say “nothing comes before my coffee” it’s not because I need it to wake me up or get me in a better mood. It’s because my priorities, as simple as they may seem, need to come first. I am allowed to make choices that are selfish. I am allowed to steal a few moments to do something that makes me happy. A quick ride through the drive-thru for an afternoon Iced Mocha can mean the difference between a homeschooling mom who feels burned out and one who feels confirmed that they matter.
When friends ask, I tell them that this homeschooling journey is going so much better than I ever expected. Yes I have a great curriculum and my daughters are thriving but it also has a whole lot to do with my demeanor. I am making those choices to recharge my batteries and it is making all the difference. Nothing comes before my coffee, and that means nothing comes before me.
