My girls aren’t school age yet but we still come into contact with teachers all the time. In ballet, in music class, in gymnastics, at swimming lessons. Each time I get to see some extraordinary people and how they impact my daughters lives even if they are with them for such a short time. I can not imagine what it will be like when my daughters go to school full time.
I really admire the sacrifices that are made each and every day by the teachers in our lives. That is why when I was asked to be a part of the 2017 Extra Yard for Teachers Summit I could not pass up the opportunity. This summit is put on by the College Football Playoff Foundation, this year the National Championship is right here in Tampa Bay. This is their philanthropic event to celebrate and champion teachers and thank them for all that they do.
On January 7th, 2017 we will get to connect with the remarkable possibility and passion of teaching. This year I get the honor attending this great summit where there will be TED-style talks, performances, a teachers lounge with tons of giveaways hourly, and 3 teachers will get a complete classroom makeover.
This video gives you a little glimpse of what the summit is all about.
When I was asked to invite a teacher I knew right away who I would bring as my guest. This young woman is an inspiration as a teacher and one that makes the biggest impact in the lives she touches.
Meet Jamie.
Jamie teaches fifth grade at Symmes Elementary. She inspires her 32 kids day in and day out, coming in early and staying late. She teaches reading and writing and loves everything about teaching.
She knew even when she was little that she wanted to be a teacher. Her role model, her mother Nancy, was a long time teacher and Jamie spent many years volunteering in her mothers classroom, even as young as middle school. Nancy was a phenomenal teacher and instilled the passion for helping others in her daughter Jamie.
Jamie graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in Elementary Education. She was thrilled that she could have the opportunity to work along side her mom as they each fulfilled their dreams, doing what they love.
Jamie had one miraculous year working side by side with her mentor. One whole year together that Jamie will forever cherish. After that year Jamie’s mother Nancy lost her battle with breast cancer.
Jamie has persevered and worked to make her moms memory everlasting by creating a scholarship fund in her mothers name. The Nancy Goodman Scholarship fund helps students looking to further their passion for education and also helps teachers in need. So far they have been able to help two students with scholarships and a teacher with technology for her classroom. If you would like to donate to The Nancy Goodman Scholarship Fund I will put details at the bottom of this post.
Even more so Jamie lives her moms legacy by being such a huge force in the classroom.
In 2016 Jamie welcomed a baby girl into her family, Nancy. Now this beautiful family of 4 knows the sacrifices and struggles of life with a teacher. She works tirelessly as a mother and a teacher and I am so proud to know this lovely lady.
Jamie will be my guest at the summit this year and she deserves every bit of it.
Not only will I be bringing Jamie, I will be bringing 3 more teachers with me to this spectacular event.
That is where you come in.
Leave a comment below telling me about a teacher in your life and why they deserve to attend this amazing event. Remember 3 teachers at the event will win a complete room makeover, wouldn’t you want to give that to someone you adore?
I will be picking 3 inspirational teachers to attend The Extra Yard For Teachers Summit. I am so excited to read your submissions. I know there are many wonderful teachers across the country but the teachers you nominate must be in the Tampa Bay area. Make sure you leave your teachers email address so I can contact them to let them know they won.
I also have something in this for you. If you nominate a teacher you have a chance of walking away with a prize of your own. If you submit a nomination you have a chance of winning 2 tickets to the Playoff Fan Central. One lucky person who nominates a teacher they love will win both tickets. Doing something nice for others always pays off in the end.
Thank you so much for your submissions. Tag your teachers on Facebook and Instagram and let them know how much you care.
Be sure to share this post to give all the teachers in Tampa Bay an opportunity to win.
This contest will end at 5pm EST on Wednesday January 4th, 2017.
